Edit Yıldızburnu reflects a refined approach to contemporary hospitality, where warmth, texture, and calm come together in balance.
Nestled in the heart of the captivating warmth of Aegean culture, in Çeşme’s unique Yıldızburnu Bay, it was a great pleasure for us to collaborate on the creation of Edit&Chill—a warm, soulful venue designed to reconnect with its community and blend seamlessly with the bay. Beyond adding value to the spaces we design, creating meaningful experiences that touch people’s lives has always been one of our core priorities.

In this project, where we undertook the interior design, we envisioned a retro atmosphere centered around music, while drawing inspiration from one of the most defining features of Aegean architecture: the seamless flow between indoor and outdoor spaces. Building on this approach, we created a permeable connection between the main area housing the record display unit, the outdoor space, and the kitchen. Working within a compact 70 m² footprint, optimizing the use of space and establishing a highly functional layout became key elements guiding our design decisions. The final design achieved a balanced composition through the harmonious use of light oak wood, metal cladding, ceramic surfaces, and deep burgundy tones.
Centerpiece of Interaction: The Record Display Wall
One of the most defining decisions of the project was the wall where the Record Display Unit—forming the heart of the bar—was placed. Designed with a combination of wood, ceramic, and metal cladding details, the display unit and its surrounding area were envisioned as a space open to social interaction and suitable for hosting enjoyable events. Throughout the design process, the needs of both guests and staff were carefully considered, resulting in a layout that is as functional as it is inviting.
Positioned at the center of the bar, the display unit became a distinctive element that enhances the warm, retro atmosphere of the space, particularly through the choice of wood as a primary material. The floor tiles also contributed significantly to the overall ambiance. In front of the display unit, a glass-brick bistro table with metal legs was designed, encouraging guests to gather in this area and establishing the bistro as one of the focal points of the venue.

In designing the bar’s kitchen, special attention was given to its ability to serve both the interior and exterior spaces. A bar counter opening from the kitchen to the outdoor area was incorporated to facilitate service, enabling the space to function efficiently and comfortably throughout all seasons.
Balancing Retro Charm and Modern Functionality in a Speakeasy Venue
Workflows in the kitchen—such as the flow of clean and soiled dishes and the relationship between storage areas and circulation—were meticulously planned. Consolidating the storage into a single zone and introducing a burgundy curtain added a colorful touch to the space, with careful attention paid to material harmony within the color palette. This curtain treatment was also applied in combination with the mirrors in the photo-shoot area at the end of the corridor, creating a cohesive visual language throughout the venue. Additionally, the use of ceiling mirrors in this area and in the restrooms contributed to playful and energetic spaces.
Lighting decisions emerged as another defining element in the design. Natural light filtering through the large façade openings illuminates the interior, while areas requiring additional light were supported with artificial lighting, with certain points highlighted as design features. The choices made for both interior and exterior lighting create a completely different experience in the evening, transforming the atmosphere of the space.
In conclusion, our aim was to create a venue that functions as a speakeasy at night while bringing a warm pop balance to Yıldızburnu’s retro ambiance during the day—harmonizing with the traditional resort character of the area while also pushing it forward. With a carefully balanced combination of materials and lighting, and a layout centered around the record display unit and bistro, this space was designed as a holistic environment that delights both staff and guests alike.
